Distance : 225 KM
Driving Time : 3 hr 8 min
Overnight : Amman
Your first destination today is a tour of Amman City, beginning with a pick-up from your hotel by our driver. You'll be taken to the Amman Citadel, also known as Jebel Al Qalaa, one of the city's most iconic and historic landmarks. Situated on one of the seven hills that make up the capital, the Citadel features remarkable ruins, including the grand Hercules Temple, the Ayyubid Watchtower, and the renowned Great Hand Statue, alongside other structures that date back to ancient times.
Next, you'll visit the ancient Roman Theatre, an impressive structure once used for musical performances. With a capacity of 6,000 people, this theatre is still used today for similar events, preserving its rich cultural legacy.
Following the theatre, we'll visit the Archaeological Museum, housing a fascinating collection of ancient artefacts, offering a deeper understanding of Jordan's historical significance.
Later, prepare for a journey to Jordan's desert castles, exquisite examples of early Islamic art and architecture. These castles, dating back to the Umayyad period (7th–8th centuries), were once luxurious retreats, hunting lodges, and trade hubs. Among the most notable are Qasr Amra, Qasr Kharana, Qasr al-Hallabat, Qasr al-Mushatta, and Qasr al-Burqu, each offering a unique glimpse into the past.

During its golden age under Roman rule, the city, known as Gerasa, flourished as a major provincial town. Today, it stands as one of the best-preserved Roman towns in the world, offering a breathtaking insight into ancient civilization.
Following your visit to Jerash, you'll continue on to Ajloun Castle, also known as Qal'at Ar-Rabad. This majestic fortress stands proudly above the lush green hills of Ajloun, visible from miles away. Its strategic location made it a key military watch post between the 12th and 15th centuries, protecting vital trade routes. Originally constructed in 1184 by Izz al-Din Usama, one of Saladin's generals, the castle played a crucial role in defending northern Jordan against Crusader forces.

This ancient mosaic, offering invaluable historical insights, has withstood centuries of destruction, fire, and neglect, making it an essential stop for history lovers.

As you explore this sacred site, you'll delve into the roots of religion and reflect on the profound history it holds.
